The
'Manx Commemorative Model Meet', a new event held for the first
time in 2000. Its aim is to commemorate aviation links with the
Isle of Man, provide a public display over the first weekend,
and a memorable week long holiday with superb flying facilities
on Jurby airfield for all our visitors.
The
island was host to the Manx Air Races from the 1930's to the mid
sixties, and many types of light aircraft took to the skies in
competition. The Isle of Man has links with the aircraft industry,
including the most modern of jet aircraft and accordingly no Manx
Air Display would be complete without the participation of the
latest breed of models - the gas turbines.
Arrangements
have been made to provide camping for tents, motorhomes or caravans
on Jurby airfield with toilets, showering and washing facilities
and also a 100ft marquee. Camping will be available on the airfield
from mid-day on Friday 10th August to mid-day on Saturday 18th
August.
A
modelling holiday in the Isle of Man is not as expensive as you
think. Although the cost of the boat fare might seem a lot, if
you are camping or bringing your camper/caravan once you get here
everything is provided - and no camping charges.
To
ease the cost of getting to the Island we have made special arrangements
with the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company for reduced fares and
a booking form is provided for you to use.
All
modellers are cordially invited to attend and to join with the
Manx Model Flyers in 2001. Manx hospitality is legendary and our
visitors will be assured of a memorable holiday on our beautiful
island not to mention almost no-stop flying from one of the best
venues available. A social programme will be organised for the
evenings and the daytime can be spent flying or sight seeing around
the beautiful Isle of Man.
All
visitors will be required to provide proof of adequate and suitable
insurance before being allowed to fly at the Manx Commemorative
Model Meet. The event will be run in a relaxed atmosphere but
there are certain criteria that have to be met with regard to
safety etc. So to avoid disappointment please ensure that you
bring any necessary documentation with you with regard to insurance
and certificates of competence.
