CARP
angler using illegal baitboats are risking prison if they
get caught.
According to the Government's Radio Communications Agency,
any boat operating on the wrong frequency is breaking the
law, and the operator could find themselves in court!
"In
extreme cases, a prison term could result, depending on the
severity of the case, but a caution and surrender of equipment
may be accepted," said a spokesman for the RA.
There
are just three frequencies for model equipment in the UK -
27 MHz and 40 MHz for cars and boats, and 35 MHz for model
planes only.
But
it has been claimed that DIY baitboat making anglers are operating
on model plane

frequencies,
which could disrupt signals and lead to a serious accident.
It
is this risk, and the penalty it carries that prompted Graham
Lynn, of the British Model Flying Association to warn of the
situation.
"There
have been recent reports of interference from angling equipment,
and we want to avoid a model plane crashing. If anglers need
help getting his equipment tested, we are happy to do it."
Phil
Fry, from Angling Techniques, the biggest baitboat manufacturer
in the country said: "Imported boats could be a potential
source of problems, because the rules are different in Europe
and several countries operate on different frequencies."
